The One Problem That Stops Home Business Entrepreneurs Dead In Their Tracks (and How To Fix It)

Want to start a home business but not certain where to begin? If you want to create a business that rivals Bill Gates, or you’re comfortable with having a few dollars to go to the movies a few times per month, there are plenty of choices out there to get started. But no matter what type of work or program you get involved with, there are a couple of hard and fast rules when it comes to choosing a home business that will keep you from wasting your time (and money) and get you started on the right path. One of the most crucial start up facts is this: follow the money ( or at least “tail it” to discover where the money is being spent!

Although this may seem like common sense, first time home business entrepreneurs make this mistake all of the time. A quick lesson in what I mean. Picture this; you’re sitting around thinking about what it would be like to own your own home business when suddenly you’re hit with this amazing thought. You’ve just thought of what in your opinion is the best home business idea in the history of civilization.

You run straight to your computer and type in a search phrase to check out any competitors and you begn dancing when you realize there is no competition. In your mind’s eye you begin to see dollar bills raining from the sky and accumulating in big piles on your front yard as you imagine how much money you’re going to make with this ground breaking, life altering product.

Stop right there!

Chances are that if no one has ever thought about this new product and there’s no competition on Google or any of the other search engines, and you’re not seeing similar products in stores or catalogues, then the chances of you making money with it are slim to none. Remember, we’re talking about a home business here that you can get up and running quickly and start making money.

As an aside, I don’t want to discourage anyone with a great idea that may have the potential to change people’s lives for the good to not pursue their dream. The steps to take and the time involved to make that dream a reality, however, are somewhat different than starting a home business from scratch.

Now you might be thinking ‘but wait, if I can get in on the ground floor of something and it takes off, I could be a zillionaire in just a couple of short years’. While there may be a one in a million chance that this could happen, pioneers exploring new territory also get something else; lots of arrows in their backs when they’re blazing these new trails. The world of business is chock full of small businesses, products, books and services that never made  asingle penny.

After the owners had their product or service developed and spent lots of money and hours of work on their project, they ran right into a hard truth about business; they didn’t check to see if there were customers actually willing to spend money on the product first. In other words, there was no market. And if you don’t have a market, it doesn’t matter how perfect or unique your product is- if no one pays money for it, you are out of luck (and a lot of time and effort).

The importance of these business steps is similar to getting dressed in the morning. you could put your pants on first and then your underpants, and who doesn’t like to run around the house pretending they’re Batman or Wonderwoman. But you may want to reconsider your appearance because people will stare when you leave your house!

When it comes to building a solid foundation around your new home business, you don’t want to start with a product and then find a market. Because unlike the general public observing that your underwear is on the outside of your pants, they won’t even pay attention to your product or service, because there is no one in the market to notice it..

One of the most popular markets that many people are interested in is the internet marketing niche. Although there is a huge demand for products and services in this niche, it is also ultra competitive. But there are plenty of intelligent home business ceo’s who are soaking up everything they can about how to make the internet work for their business, be it crocheting, mountain bike riding or anything else you can think of.

If you’re interested in learning how to use the internet to market some sort of product or service online, then check out Home Business CEO. These two entrepreneurs have put together a recipe for anyone trying to own their first home business or even start an internet home business from scratch. Warning: the home page that you land on can sound a little “salesy” but don’t let that fool you. The information that they provide is rock solid.
